Walkers hold blind dinner event in Crieff

A GROUP of visually impaired mountain climbers has come up with a unique fundraising event.

With just five weeks until the climbers, along with their guides, fly to Nepal to begin their trek to the base camp of Mount Everest, fundraising efforts are being stepped up.

And Fiona Gallagher, one of the local women who will be climbing to the base camp, has decided to combine fundraising with showing sighted people what living as a blind person is like.

For two nights, the group will hold an Eat in the Dark event at Crieff restaurant The Gurkhas.

The eatery will be almost totally in darkness, except for the toilets which will be lit, and the bar which will have tealight candles scattered around.

Guests will sit at the table, at which point servers will announce the choices available from the buffet, take orders and fill plates from a choice of six starters and eight main dishes.

Without being able to see what they are eating, diners will be told what items are on their plate, using a clock face method, eg rice at 12 oclock, curry at 3 oclock.

As well as the meal, there will also be a raffle.

Eat in the Dark will be held on Tuesday, September 14, and Wednesday, September 15. Tickets cost £12 and can be bought from Fiona at The Outpost.

Seats are limited on both nights, so anyone wishing to attend is urged to book their place early to save disappointment.
