Last chance for young authors to enter writing competition

Dec 28 2012

by Clare Damodaran, Blairgowrie Advertiser

Young East Perthshire authors are running out of time to win an iPad.

The closing date is fast approaching for a writing compeition being held by Perth and Kinross Council Libraries.

Following in the footsteps of the highly regarded and well established William Soutar Writing Prize for adults, which is now in its 10th year, this new short story competition for children is a fantastic opportunity for youngsters to show their creative talents.

The competition will alternate between poetry and short stories, and this year young authors are being asked to write a short story on the theme of ‘Houses and Homes’.

Entry is free and the competition is open for children in Perth and Kinross aged from 7 to 15 years.

There are 4 categories: 7 to 11 years, 12 to 13 years, 14 to 15 years and a best entry in Gaelic by 7 to 11 year olds.

An iPad will be awarded to the winner in each category.

There is also £200 worth of book tokens to be won by both a primary and a secondary School in Perth and Kinross.

Entry forms and competition rules can be found in community and school libraries around Perth & Kinross, or at the library website www.pkc.gov.uk/library/

The deadline for all entries is Monday, January 7, 2013.
