Crieff's Ewan to receive OBE

Jan 4 2013

by Lynn Duke, Strathearn Herald

Ewan McGregor is to receive the OBE for services to drama and charity.

The Strathearn raised actor and Hollywood superstar is a great champion of UNICEF. He not only supports the charity by embarking on various challenges such as the Long Way Round motorbike trip but he also frequently sees at first hand the work of UNICEF by visiting many projects around the world.

His most recent UNICEF visit took him to India, Nepal and Congo, on a mission to immunise some of the world’s hardest-to-reach children.

Ewan’s dad Jim told the Herald: “Carol and I are delighted and very proud that Ewan has been awarded an OBE in recognition of his acting and charity work.

“Ewan has asked me to say that he is delighted and honoured to have been included in the New Year’s Honours list. He is proud to work with UNICEF and his other charities and will continue to help them in any way he can in the future.”

Jim added that Ewan sends his best wishes to everyone in his home town of Crieff and wishes them all a very Happy New Year.
