Coupar Angus Royal Bank of Scotland to stay open until end of April

Jan 26 2012

by Katy Gordon, Blairgowrie Adv

CUSTOMERS of the Coupar Angus Royal Bank of Scotland will be able to continue banking locally for a bit longer.

The bank confirmed this week that the branch will remain open until April 25, following initial news that it would close on February 29.

This is due to FSA guidelines which state that a bank must give 12 week’s notice to customers before closing a branch, but letters received had the wrong date, or none at all.

A spokesperson explained: “We can confirm that our Coupar Angus branch will close on April 25, 2012, but we are aware that some customers may have been advised of an earlier date.

“We would offer our unreserved apologies for any confusion this has caused.”

He continued: “Closing a branch is not a decision we take lightly, however demand for our service at Coupar Angus is very low, with many customers now choosing alternative ways of banking, such as 24 hour online, telephone services and our smartphone banking application.

“We will be arranging for our mobile bank to serve Coupar Angus and alternatively our Blairgowrie branch is just over four and a half miles away. We are looking to keep an ATM in Coupar Angus and customers can also access their money at the local Post Office (or any other Post Office branch), as well as at another 50 ATMs within 10 miles.”
