Ex-service men and women, alongside members of the public, are invited to a service of Remembrance at the war memorial in the Wellmeadow on Remembrance Sunday, November 11.
The ceremony will remember the fallen from two world wars and other conflicts across the globe.
Arrangements are by the Blairgowrie, Rattray and District Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland and Jim Gibb, branch chairman, hopes that businesses and individuals will observe the two-minute silence at 11am wherever they are.
The service at the Wellmeadow will begin at 12.30pm and will be preceded by a parade from the Legion Clubrooms at George Street just after midday.
The parade marshall will be RSM William Whytock, Black Watch. Standard bearers and organisations are to assemble in Upper Brown Street by 12.10pm to march off at 12.20pm by Brown Street, High Street, and Allan Street, to the Wellmeadow. Ex-service personnel unable to march are invited to join the parade inside the Wellmeadow.
The service at the Wellmeadow will be conducted by the Rev. Ian Knox, Scots Guards.
The minister’s opening remarks will be followed by the laying of wreaths by Legion representatives and other organisations, followed by prayer.
The Last Post will be sounded and after a two-minute silence Binyon’s Lines will be recited followed by the Kohima Epitaph.
A piper will play the lament, The Flo’ers o’ the Forest, followed by Reveille.
Members of the public wishing to lay wreaths are invited to do so at the conclusion of the service. Police will stop traffic during the two-minute silence and appeal for the co-operation of motorists.
Anyone wishing to mark the occasion in a more personal way may place a cross in a Garden of Remembrance, sited near the top gate, and Legion officials will be there with crosses on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
Mr Gibb said the Legion has distributed cans and poppies to more than 50 shops, bars, hotels, businesses, and schools on behalf of Poppy Scotland. He added that on-going conflicts abroad means the Earl Haig Fund continues to need substantial sums to continue its work.
In Alyth, the two minute silence will be observed during morning worship which starts at 10.45am and afterwards the congregation will be invited to join a ceremony at the war memorial.
In Bendochy, a short Act of Remembrance will be held at Bendochy Church where a wreath will be laid at the war memorial arch, followed by a joint service at Coupar Angus Abbey Church.
Following morning worship in Cargill Burrelton Church, there will be short Act of Remembrance at the war memorial on the Green when a two minute silence will be observed and wreaths laid.
In Coupar Angus, the two minute silence will be marked at a joint service with Bendochy Church in the Abbey Church where the main service starts at 10.55am followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial in the school.
